NexGen Power Systems designs and manufactures gallium nitride (GaN) power transistors for the $4.8B high-voltage (1200 V) power transistor market. GaN makes transistors that are 10 times faster than silicon (Si) power devices enabling economically significant improvements in sophisticated power systems in their physical size, cost and efficiency. GaN offers a quantum leap over Si in power management performance and has significant cost, performance and reliability advantages. Manager, Process Integration

 Job Description

  • In this role you will be responsible for process module development, qualification and manufacturing in etch & cleans area.
  • The individual must be self-motivated with very little need for management. Startup environment requires this individual to be hard working and flexible in supporting moving wafers through the fab.

Job Responsibilities

  • Bring up tools by working with equipment engineering and vendors.
  • Develop etch & cleans processes that meet device operation requirements.
  • Implement inline metrology of process modules.
  • Transfer process know-how to manufacturing by creating SOPs and training fab operators.
  • Perform SPC reviews of inline metrics.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science or related field.
  • Prior hands-on experience with dry etcher (Plasmatherm preferred), wet etching and cleans.
  • Hands-on experience with CD measurement tools and profilometers.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar job function.
  • Prior experience with GaN is desired but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in manufacturing environment.
  • Experienced in SPC, DOE and FMEAs.

Principal Photolithography Process Engineer

Job Description

MTS, Product Engineering

Job Description

  • NexGen Power Systems is seeking a motivated engineer to lead the Product Engineering team for a new generation of power semiconductor devices based on GaN.
  • You will work closely with process integration, module, device, and applications teams to improve device performance and yield.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the Product Development Process bringing products from conception to the production release
  • Manage reliability test plans for new products, including sample testing during prototyping phase and full qualification during production release
  • Develop and execute characterization plans for new products
  • Define production test limit and datasheet specifications based on characterization data. Compare data to target specifications and formulate approaches to achieve a match between target performance and measured unit performance at production release
  • Develop and document procedures for advanced reliability tests, such as high voltage stress
  • Work with Applications Engineering on customer-related issues
  • Lead failure analysis investigations using structure problem-solving methods to engage a cross-functional team to diagnose, resolve, and prevent future problems

Candidate Qualifications

  • BS degree in electrical engineering or physics. MS/PhD preferred.
  • 5+ years product and/or failure analysis experience in semiconductor devices and integrated circuits, power device (e.g. IGBT) experience preferred
  • Knowledge of common failure analysis techniques and tools including sample preparation, FIB/SEM, X-Ray, cross sectioning, emission microscopy, and material analysis EDX/FTIR/Auger/Raman spectroscopy
  • Strong competence in high voltage, power supply circuits, buck/boost converters
  • Hands-on experience evaluating/characterizing power semiconductor devices
  • Experience with structured problem solving methods (e.g. 8D, 5 why)
  • Experience with Design of Experiments, statistics for manufacturing engineering,
  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as JMP, Tableau, etc
  • Programming experience, such as Matlab, Python, JSL, Labview, is a plus

MTS, Test Engineering

Job Description

  • NexGen Power Systems is seeking a motivated engineer to lead the Test Engineering team for a new generation of power semiconductor devices based on GaN.
  • You will work closely with product engineering, module, device, and applications teams to characterize new products and maintain production test capabilities for in support of volume shipments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of test hardware and software for the characterization of GaN power semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Implementation, correlation, and release of reliable test solutions in support of production ramps.
  • Design and procurement of custom probe cards which can operate in a high voltage environment.
  • Specification, design, and implementation of custom test environments to verify device operation to data sheet specifications.
  • Development of test solutions for power semiconductor components (1500V/30A) which meet all applicable safety requirements for both operator and equipment.
  • Clean and well-commented code constructs
  • Develop and document procedures for advanced reliability tests, such as high voltage stress
  • Test efficiency – is the implemented test time within the allotted test time budget target?
  • Work closely with Product Engineering to achieve continuous improvement of the test environment as measured by reduction in test time and yield improvement
  • Work with Applications Engineering on customer-related issues

Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering or Physics. MS/PhD is desired.
  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of semiconductor product test experience preferably with IGBT or other semiconductor power devices and circuits.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management abilities. Able to work to aggressive schedules.
  • Proactive approach to problem identification and solving. Can participate in and drive teams to root cause identification and creative solutions.
  • Strong competence in high voltage/high current equipment construction and operation

Principal Device Engineer

Job Description

  • The individual will be responsible for device design and optimization for GaN vertical power devices to meet market requirements.
  • The individual must be self-motivated with ability to handle a fast-paced startup environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Device structural design coordinated with integration engineering.
  • Simulation of device electrical performance, as well as thermal modeling.
  • Determination of process manufacturing tolerances based on simulations of typical structural variations.
  • Design and layout of test chips to verify electrical performance.
  • Test specifications for test structures.
  • Analysis of electrical characterization data and comparison to targets.
  • Incorporation of design for manufacturability and design for quality in the device design.
  • Work (as needed) with personnel at NexGen’s Syracuse fab and external foundry partners.

Candidate Qualifications

  • M.S./Ph.D. in Electrical Engineerin.
  • + >7 years’ experience in semiconductor device design, with a track record of successful release of devices to production.
  • Background in power semiconductor devices highly desired.
  • Prior experience with GaN is desired but not required.
  • Familiarity with common TCAD device simulation tools is required, as well as experience with layout tools.
  • Proficient in data analysis platform such as JMP.
